Phitsanulok
Phitsanulok is 377 kms. by road from Bangkok. It is one of the most interesting provinces in the North, serving as a center for commerce, transportation and communication. Phitsanulok is the birthplace of King Naresuan the Great and his equally brave and able brother, Prince Ekatosarot. As the cross-road between the Northern and Central regions of the country, Phitsanulok has long been an important center both for political and strategical reason. It was a recruiting place when Ayutthaya had war with Myanmar. It was a capital of Thailand for 25 years during the reign of King Boromtrailokkanat of Ayutthaya. The province of Phitsanulok has many tourist attractions. When you are in town, we suggest you take a visit to Wat Phra Si Mahathat where it houses what is regarded as the most beautiful and graceful Buddha statue in Thailand, Phra Phutthachinarat. Another interesting place of visit is Phu Hin Rong Kla, a unique site where rocky grounds are strangely-shaped, some of which having deep crevices. Phitsanulok is administratively divided into the following districts: Muang, Wang Thong, Phrom Phiram, Bang Krathum, Bang Rakam, Wat Bot, Nakhon Thai, Chat Trakan and Noen Maprang.
Phitsanulok originally served as a Khmer outpost called Song Kwae before the Kwai Noi River changed its course in the 11th century. In the 15th century Phitsanulok was the seat of the Ayuthaya viceroy, who ruled the province of Sukhothai. Phitsanulok is highly regarded among the Thai people as the birthplace of King Naresuan the Great, who governed the province 1569-84. A memorial to King Naresuan is located on the north side of the river on the grounds of the former Chandahana Palace.

Sukhothai

Nong khai
Nong Khai is located on the banks of the Mae Khong River and the close to the Friendship bridge that links Thailand with Laos. A small and pleasant town offering a taste of life in the North East.
